During the October 2025, the ITAM Forum’s Trustee Board unanimously approved the donation of ITAM Forum assets to the Linux Foundation. The transition of ITAM Forum from a standalone organization to a Linux Foundation project was completed February 19, 2026.
About the Linux Foundation
Created in 2007, the Linux Foundation is a vendor-neutral ‘home’ for open-source projects and communities, providing back office, shared services to help projects grow. Examples include the FinOps Foundation, OpenChain, and SPDX. The Foundation is designed for neutral, cross-industry collaboration with projects retaining their own governance. It also offers a recognized pathway to international standards through the Joint Development Foundation (JDF).
During 2020, ITAM Forum began as a not for profit UK organization – as a spin-out of ISO 19770 (the ISO ITAM Family of Standards). Our mission then was to promote the business practice of IT Asset Management, which remains a mainstay of our activities today. Partnership with the Linux Foundation and its related Projects will give ITAM Forum operational scale that will enable us to deliver more and faster to a broader community.
What Members Told Us
During October 2025, we surveyed ITAM Forum members to gauge their feedback on this move. Of those who gave their feedback:
- 76% supported/strongly supported the move
- 15% were neutral/unsure
- 10% opposed/strongly opposed the move
We’ll continue to provide updates to our members about the ITAM Forum joining the Linux Foundation, including timings and how the membership experience may change and for the better.
